The Troops are back for 2020!

My name is Eric Jones. I was in scouting for most of my childhood, and I have always wanted a similar experience for my son.  I want my son to know God with other like-minded boys and to show that having a relationship with Christ and His Church is what true masculinity looks like.  The Troops of St. George accomplishes this using the vehicles of Camping/Outdoor activities and Service without compromising our Catholic faith.

What are The Troops of St. George?

The Troops of St. George is a Catholic Apostolate with the purpose of raising young Catholic youth to grow into Catholic men.  This is done using camping events, service projects and community among other young men.  Activities include learning about Catholic prayers, communal rosaries, fireside Mass, knot tying, swimming, pilgrimages and other events that the troop would like to participate in.

Who can join?

While this is a Catholic organization that is in fidelity to the Catholic Church, any boy can join regardless of religious affiliation.  This will be open to families from St. Stephen, St. Aloysius and St. Anthony as well as the St. Stephen School boys.  However, only Catholic male adults may hold positions of authority in the troop.  All adult members will have to successfully complete the Diocesan ‘Protecting God’s Children’ trainings course.  Please keep in mind that we will be participating in Mass, praying the Rosary, learning various Latin prayers and asking for Mary’s and the Saints’ intercession.

How does it operate?

The Troop is comprised of boys and their dads or male father-figure.  The troop will meet once or twice a month for either a camping trip or other activity and an occasional planning meeting.  The age range for the troop is 6 years old through 18.  Each boy needs a male adult to join with them (a father with multiple sons can represent all of them).

What does it cost?

The annual membership fee will be about $65 per Cadet and $65 for the adult ($130 combined annually but waived for July 2020 – July 2021).  Other costs will include the field book ($25) and Uniform ($70+).  Cost should not be a restriction to membership.  Scholarships are available.
